Between the color palette, bold patterns, and a pair of Lady Gaga’s 12-inch stilettos (the shoes were designed by local fashion designer Thom Solo and bought at auction), this project by Boston-based designer Dane Austin is one seriously fun place to live. And Dane tailored the home to this couple who had moved from a smaller Manhattan space.

Unlike a plain “white box condo,” this floor plan has interesting angles, a large kitchen island and dining area, and two guest bedrooms. “It’s my honor and duty to give clients the lifestyle they’ve always envisioned for themselves. This couple is coming from a rental half this size, so they were excited. I love to develop their ideas and inspiration and elevate the look of the final space to a level beyond their imagination and expectation,” writes Dane.

Plenty of colors punctuate every room, but the heart of the home’s palette is a pale yet perky pink. “We knew we wanted to bring the pink color down to the center of the room and but we wanted it to be an interesting textured finish,” explains Dane. “I love how the pattern is reminiscent of a snakeskin or crocodile handbag.”

Not everything was purchased new for this condo’s remodel. The bold pendant fixtures hanging over the kitchen island, for instance, came with the couple from New York. “It just felt like they were bringing a little piece of New York with us to Boston,” said the client. “She was drawn to a neutral color combo while her husband preferred the mint and cherry red.” The painting in the dining area is another item brought with them from New York; “the piece pulls the colors of each room together into the center of the home and it’s the first thing you see when you walk through the door.”
